Netball Victoria Game and Match Management Workshops

Netball Victoria are running the following workshops in the Barwon and Colac regions over the coming months.

GAME AND MATCH MANAGEMENT WORKSHOP

Topics include providing umpires with improved understanding of the protocols relating to Section 13 of the Rules of Netball and the instances when they should be applied and aims to increase an umpires' confidence to apply the Game Management section in matches, and gain a better understanding of the difference between Match Management techniques and Game Management requirements, and how these can work together.

Match Review Panel Findings - April 12

AFL Barwon advises the Match Review of the weekends games has been completed with the following findings.

Torquay v Queenscliff

Due to the Senior Torquay v Queenscliff match Saturday 8th April not being filmed, the MRP were unable to consider the 2 incidents as requested by the officiating umpires.

The Notice of Report issued on the day by the field umpire against #57 Queenscliff Sol Bowtell for a dangerous tackle on #28 Torquay Oscar Lewis in the 4th quarter has been assessed by the MRP based on the information provided.

Using the Classification table provided by AFL Victoria, the base sanction for this offence is 1 match.

The player has entered an early guilty plea which resulted in a reprimand to be applied.

 

Ocean Grove v Newcomb

At the request of the officiating umpires, the MRP reviewed an incident that occurred during the second quarter of the Ocean Grove v Newcomb Senior match Friday 7th April.

The incident involved a potentially dangerous tackle on Ocean Grove Player #22 Nathan Down by Newcomb player #23 Corey Ogle.

The MRP determined that the tackle made by Newcomb player #23 Corey Ogle on Ocean Grove Player #22 Nathan Down was not a reportable offence and no charge was laid.

At the request of Newcomb FNC, the MRP reviewed an incident that occurred during the second quarter of the Ocean Grove v Newcomb Senior match Friday 7th April.

The incident involved potential high contact on #7 Newcomb Elliott Taylor by #31 Ocean Grove Glenn Campbell.

The MRP determined that the tackle laid by Taylor contributed to the contact and there was no evidence of a reportable offence being committed by Campbell.

No charge was laid.

The Notice of Report issued on the day by the field umpire against #20 Ocean Grove Jacob Talarico for a dangerous tackle on #6 Newcomb Pat McGinley in the 4th quarter has been assessed by the MRP.

Using the Classification table provided by AFL Victoria, the base sanction for this offence is 1 match.

The player has entered an early guilty plea which resulted in a reprimand to be applied.

 

Barwon Heads v Portarlington

At the request of the officiating umpires, the MRP reviewed an incident that occurred during the fourth quarter of the Barwon Heads v Portarlington Senior match Saturday 8th April.

The incident involved a potentially dangerous tackle on Barwon Heads Player #20 Oliver Wiltshire by Portarlington player #44 Benjamin Deluca.

The MRP determined that the tackle made by Portarlington player #44 Deluca on Barwon Heads Player #20 Wiltshire warranted a free kick but was not a reportable offense and no charge was laid.

AFL Barwon advises the Match Review of the weekends games has been completed with the following findings.

 

Thomson v North Geelong

At the request of the officiating umpires, the MRP reviewed an incident that occurred during the first quarter of the Thomson v North Geelong Senior match Saturday 1st April.

The incident involved Thomson #61 Regan Kerslake and North Geelong #31 Byron Mahoney.

The MRP determined that the tackle applied by North Geelong player #31 Byron Mahoney on Thomson player #61 Regan Kerslake was dangerous and constituted a reportable offence.

Using the Classification table provided by AFL Victoria, the base sanction for this offence is 3 matches.

The player has entered an early guilty plea which resulted in a 2 match penalty to be applied.

 

Geelong Amateur v Anglesea

At the request of the officiating umpires, the MRP reviewed an incident that occurred during the first quarter of the Geelong Amateur v Anglesea Senior match Saturday 1st April.

The incident involved Geelong Amateur #3 Harry Kershaw and Anglesea #10 Fergus Huntington.

The MRP determined that the tackle applied by Anglesea player #10 Fergus Huntington on Geelong Amateur player #3 Harry Kershaw was dangerous and constituted a reportable offence.

Using the Classification table provided by AFL Victoria, the base sanction for this offence is 3 matches.

The player has entered an early guilty plea which resulted in a 2 match penalty to be applied.

 

Geelong West Giants v East Geelong

At the request of the officiating umpires, the MRP reviewed an incident that occurred during the fourth quarter of the Geelong West Giants v East Geelong Senior match Saturday 1st April.

The incident involved Geelong West Giants #21 Josh Viney and an unknown East Geelong player.

The MRP determined that the vision of the contact made in the incident was inconclusive and no charge was laid.

 

Queenscliff v Modewarre

At the request of the officiating umpires, the MRP reviewed an incident that occurred during the third quarter of the Queenscliff v Modewarre Senior match Saturday 1st April.

The incident involved a possible strike on Modewarre Player #34 Morgan Fenton by Queenscliff player #5 Jayden Durran.

The MRP determined that the contact made by Queenscliff #5 Jayden Durran on Modewarre #34 Morgan Fenton was not a reportable offence and no charge was laid.

 

St Joseph’s v North Shore

At the request of the officiating umpires, the MRP reviewed two alleged melees that occurred during the first and third quarters of the St Joseph’s v North Shore Senior match Saturday 1st April.

The MRP determined that the incidents did not warrant any further action and no charges were laid.

Geelong Next Gen Academy Junior Trials

Geelong's Next Generation Academy will be holding trials for its 12-15 year-old girls and boys programs on Tuesday 28 March.

The academy is part of a talent pathways program for young people of First Nations or culturally-diverse backgrounds, with Next Gen tournaments scheduled for Melbourne next month.

The trials will take place at 4.30pm Tuesday 28 March at Deakin University's Elite Sports Precinct in Waurn Ponds. Prospective players and their guardians are asked to meet Geelong's Next Gen Academy staff at the football ground club rooms off Nicol Drive.
