BFL Wash Up Round 14

Barwon Heads vs Queenscliff

With a win over Queenscliff, Barwon Heads has cemented their spot for Finals. As for the Coutas, they are still within reach of the fifth spot but are two and a half games behind.

The Coutas must defeat Geelong Amateur this weekend. Ammo will have the home-ground advantage, but they almost lost to Anglesea. For Barwon Heads, a win against Newcomb will go a long way in consolidating that double chance come August.

Best

Barwon Heads: O. Wiltshire, N. Brown, S. Baker, K. Maher, L. Mitchell, N. McGregor-Dawson

Queenscliff: C. Durran, Z. Henderson, S. Bowtell, J. McIvor-Clark, N. Maishman, M. Keane

Goals

Barwon Heads: 5 N. Brown, 2 M. Phelps, N. Aulsebrook, S. Baker, C. Brauer, B. Eddy, M. Herbison, S. Lyle, N. McGregor-Dawson, C. Walter, O. Wiltshire

Queenscliff: 2 J. McIvor-Clark, S. Bowtell, C. Durran, M. Keane

Final Score

Barwon Heads: 16.14 (110)

Queenscliff: 5.15 (45)

Geelong Amateur vs Anglesea

Very close or lucky, describes the Ammo win against Anglesea. A slow start by the Kangas proved to be their undoing. Just when you thought it would be a blowout, Anglesea came back to give Geelong Amateur a bit of a scare.

Ammo will have another tough task against Queenscliff. Although the Coutas were flat last week, this game is no guarantee. Anglesea is also in calculations for the ‘Top 5’. A big win over Portarlington and they’ll be even more in the hunt than ever.

Best

Geelong Amateur: S. Darley, L. Devine, L. Cogan, B. Barnett, G. Hardiman, S. Hosking

Anglesea: E. Floyd, R. Williams, D. Midolo, L. Beers, A. Caldwell, M. Simpson

Goals

Geelong Amateur: 3 M. Hungerford, 3 L. Reilly, 2 B. Barnett, 2 S. Hosking, T. Stephen

Anglesea: 2 L. Beers, 2 D. Elliott, 2 J. Harrison, 2 D. Pettingill, B. Jaska, R. Williams

Final Score

Geelong Amateur: 11.11 (77)

Anglesea: 10.13 (73)

Newcomb vs Modewarre

The good patch of form by Newcomb came to an end at the hands of Modewarre. Power managed to keep pace in the first term, but that was ‘all she wrote’. The Warriors are just sharpening their steel now and getting ready for Finals.

Modewarre has Torquay this coming week. It’s the perfect opportunity to find out where the gap between the Warriors is and where Torquay are. For Newcomb, it’s all about pride when they face Barwon Heads. Only four rounds left, let’s see if Power can disappoint some clubs.

Best

Newcomb: B. Rees, J. Duke, R. Hollins, F. Anscombe, D. Huntley-Mitchell, K. Bourke

Modewarre: C. Farrell, D. Beames, J. Finch, D. Schilder, J. Ollis, Zack May

Goals

Newcomb: 3 A. Steele, 2 J. Duke, 2 J. Walker, D. Huntley-Mitchell,

Modewarre: 4 C. Joseph, 3 C. Farrell, 3 T. Hornsey, J. Finch, Z. May, J. Ollis, T. Worpel

Final Score

Newcomb: 8.12 (60)

Modewarre: 14.11 (95)

Ocean Grove vs Portarlington

Nathan Jones ladies and gentlemen! The guest appearance had two goals to his name, but even with his added brilliance, the Grubbers proved to be too much for the Demons.

Ocean Grove has some heavy assignments coming up. Firstly, it’s Drysdale, followed by Modewarre, Barwon Heads, and then Geelong Amateur. Nobody expects them to win, but how they walk out this season matters. Portarlington has Anglesea.

Best

Ocean Grove: K. Annand, F.Keck, J. Paterson, J. McHenry, M. Taylor, C. Goodger

Portarlington: W. Foott, T. Cummins, M. Farrell, J. Cummins, S. Walton, S. Hogan

Goals

Ocean Grove: 7 K. Annand, 6 J. Paterson, 3 C. Goodger, N. Gibbon, F. Long, M. Sutton, M. Taylor

Portarlington: 2 N. Jones, 2 M. Spence, T. Benham, N. Cini, T. Cummins, W. Foott, B. Wells

Final Score

Ocean Grove: 20.14 (134)

Portarlington: 9.6 (60)

Torquay vs Drysdale

This was the match all BFL fans wanted to see. The previous encounter saw the Hawks show up the Tigers, but not this time. The Tigers opened up with rage and played four solid football quarters, leading to a convincing win over Drysdale. The Hawks were keeping in touch with the Tigers until the final act.

Torquay look set to have the week off come Finals. But they still have Modewarre to contend with this Saturday. Drysdale has an easier opponent in Ocean Grove. A big win to the Hawks could help their percentage.

Best

Torquay: M. Burns, C. Currie, B. Henderson, M. Hurley, W. Doyle, N. Mifsud

Drysdale: M. Mcguire, J. Breust, M. Hebbard, B. Fennell, S. Fleming, J. Rushton

Goals

Torquay: 4 N. Mifsud, 3 P. McMahon, 2 C. Heard, S. Caruso, C. Currie, W. Doyle, D. Gleeson, S. Ham, R. Holmes, N. O'Farrell, J. Darke, M. Burns, L. Findlay

Drysdale: 5 M. Hebbard, 2 B. Beardsell, 2 T. Ruggles, J. Breust, M. Clark, S. Fleming, M. Gunn, B. Henderson, J. Rushton, B. Sykes

Final Score

Torquay: 19.10 (124)

Drysdale: 16.5 (101)
