BFL Wash Up Round 10

Anglesea vs Torquay

It was always going to be tough for Anglesea against Torquay. Across all four quarters of last weekend's match, you see a dominant team. Anglesea has had some spring in their step in recent weeks, but the Tigers are real contenders. The deficit this time was 77 points.

The Tigers will have another easy kill against Portarlington in their upcoming match. Anglesea will have another tough task this Saturday when they face Barwon Heads who are full of confidence at the moment.

Modewarre vs Barwon Heads

Modewarre got backhanded by the Seagulls last weekend. The Warriors seem to have dropped off in form in the past few rounds. From the start of the game till the final siren, they were never in the contest.

Modewarre will not have to leave their home-field advantage this weekend, but they will want to make a statement against Geelong Amateurs who seem to be in the same boat as the Warriors. Barwon Heads have proven they are better than most and currently deserve their third spot. The Seagulls will return home this Saturday, where Anglesea awaits.

Newcomb vs Geelong Amateur

The Ammos may have got the win, but Power definitely gave them a fright. The drop off in the third term by Newcomb, allowed Geelong Amateur to go into the final term with a healthy lead. Power fought hard but couldn’t claim the four points.

Geelong Amateur are getting harder to predict with each passing round. This next match against Modewarre will show us where they’re at. As for Newcomb, a much better effort than what has been seen in previous performances. They will want to keep that form going into their next match against Ocean Grove.

Ocean Grove vs Queenscliff

The Grubbers gained the early advantage with the Coutas trailing at every quarter. A dominant third term saw Ocean Grove hold on until the final siren despite a hungry Queenscliff.

Finally, Ocean Grove gets some reward for all their efforts. They were flat in Round 9 but were keen to make amends last Saturday. The Grubbers will be hungry to keep their edge against Newcomb while Queenscliff will have quite the task when they come up against Drysdale.

Drysdale vs Portarlington

The Demons are still trapped at the bottom without any hope in sight. Not that anybody expected much considering they had to play against a team that hasn’t been defeated all season. At least they kept the deficit below 200 points this time.

Portarlington’s horror run will continue with Torquay as their next stop. As for the mighty Hawks, they don’t need to go anywhere this weekend, Queenscliff will come to them.

BFL Wash Up Round 9

Ocean Grove vs Barwon Heads

Ocean Grove was abysmal last weekend. They normally come into each game with a fighting attitude but Barwon Heads made minced meat of them.

The Seagulls have been one of the top sides all year, but there still seems to be a gap between Barwon Heads and the top two titans on the ladder.

They will meet Modewarre for the second time this season on Saturday. Ocean Grove will need to go back to basics as they look to Queenscliff as their next opposition.

Portarlington vs Modewarre

It seems the new average for defeating Portarlington, is well over 200 points. Modewarre came in and steamrolled their opponents by 218 points.

The Warriors have used Portarlington as a training drill, but it's on to more serious competition this weekend. Barwon Heads is a game ahead, but the Warriors will be keen to knock them back to an even playing field. The Demons have a David vs Goliath scenario when they meet Drysdale.

Queenscliff vs Anglesea

The unstoppable force met the immovable object last Saturday. The Coutas came out guns blazing, but Anglesea did not go away. They fought tooth and nail to get back into the contest, and the result was a draw.

Queenscliff would love to replay that game. Unfortunately, time goes on, and Ocean Grove is their next stop. The Roos have some spring in their step lately, but they will need to pull out every trick in the book to beat Torquay.

Torquay vs Geelong Amateur

Geelong Amateurs had a test in Torquay last Saturday, and like so many others, they failed to impress the Tigers. An 81 point beat down, was the result.

One could easily see this Tigers rampage going on until Round 14 when they meet Drysdale. For now, Anglesea is their next target. The Ammos will look to bounce back against Newcomb.

Best

Torquay: C. Currie, B. Henderson, L. Findlay, M. Croxford, J. Darke, S. Ham

Newcomb vs Drysdale

The Hawks are still undefeated and still causing opposition coaches headaches. Although Drysdale started off slow in the first term, they unleashed a barrage of goals for the rest of the game.

Drysdale could not have a bigger advantage this upcoming weekend. They face Portarlington at Drysdale where the best meets the worst. Newcomb will match up against the Ammos, but Power will have the home ground advantage.

Best

Newcomb: M. Walson, F. Anscombe, P. McGinley, B. Rees, S. Scolaro, R. Jackman
