ANZAC Day clash and Grand Final rematch included in updated fixture changes

AFL Barwon wishes to advise of several fixture changes for the 2025 season across both Bellarine & Geelong Football and Netball competitions.

Please see all the updated match times and dates below:

 

Twilight Matches for Colac in Round 0 and Round 3

Colac vs Bell Park (Round 0) will feature a twilight Senior Football match kicking off at 5:30pm, while A Grade Netball will commence at 3:50pm

Colac vs South Barwon (Round 3) will also be played under twilight conditions, with Senior Football starting at 5:30pm and A Grade Netball at 3:50pm.

 

ANZAC Day Night Clash: Newcomb vs Ocean Grove

Newcomb vs Ocean Grove clash has been rescheduled to an ANZAC Day night fixture, adding to the significance of the day in the Bellarine FNL. Both Senior Football and A Grade Netball will now take place under lights, with first bounce and first centre pass at 6:30pm.

This change marks a shift from the traditional scheduling and enhances the ANZAC Day proceedings in the region, complementing the existing Portarlington vs Drysdale fixture earlier in the day. 

 

South Barwon vs Leopold moved back to Saturday

The highly anticipated Grand Final rematch between South Barwon and Leopold has been rescheduled to Saturday, May 24th, reverting to traditional time slots after originally set for Sunday May 25th.

 

Leopold vs St Joseph’s Netball Venue Change

The Leopold vs St Joseph’s A Grade Netball match, originally scheduled to be played in Lorne, will now be played at Leopold on Saturday, April 12th due to court issues.

JOB ALERT - AFL Barwon Volunteer Work Experience - Netball Operations

AFL Barwon provides governance and strategy development for Football and Netball across the Barwon region. We are seeking volunteer(s) to join our team and gain valuable experience in the areas of netball operations. 

The work experience is a voluntary position and will required on Tuesday & Friday Afternoons each week for a period of 6 months, with the potential for extension.

Grand Final rematch shifted days with start time adjusted for local derby

The much anticipated Grand Final rematch in the Dow Bellarine Football Netball League between Anglesea and Torquay has been moved to Saturday April 26th following consultation between both clubs.

Matches are scheduled to commence at the standard start times for all competitions.

There has been an amendment to the start times of the Blood Toyota Geelong Football Netball League matches in the Round 0 game between Newtown & Chilwell and St Joseph's. The Senior Men's Football Match will now start at 1:40pm.

Times News Group sign on as new naming partner of the Regions Rising Stars

AFL Barwon is excited to announce a 3-year partnership with the Times News Group, strengthening the connection between Football and Netball and the wider Barwon region community.

This partnership will see the Times News Group become an official media partner of AFL Barwon, providing extensive coverage of local Football and Netball across its range of publications, including the Geelong Times, Surf Coast Times, Bellarine Times, Golden Plains Times, and Armstrong Creek Times.

The Times News Group will be the home of the emerging players of our Football and Netball competitions, holding the naming rights of the Rising Star Awards for the Geelong FNL and Bellarine FNL football and Netball competitions, and the Senior Female Football competition. There will be monthly nominees selected from these competitions throughout the season, with winners announced at the end of season awards events.

The Times News Group’s commitment to emerging underage sport will also include branded match day footballs for all Under 18 male’s competitions, plus naming rights for the Under 18 Division 3 and Under 18 Division 4 competitions.

Warick Brown, Managing Director of Times News Group, emphasised the importance of providing a platform for young athletes, saying, “Times News Group is excited about partnering with AFL Barwon to highlight the talented Rookies in both local Bellarine FNL, Geelong FNL Football and Netball, and Female Football. Being able to showcase the talent we have in our own backyard, is a testament to not only the own individual’s time and effort needed to excel in their chosen sport, but also how clubland harnesses and promotes a great health and wellbeing environment for the youth in our community”.

The Times News Group will also provide one half-page of editorial space for each of AFL Barwon’s Geelong FNL & Bellarine FNL clubs in their geographically associated Times News Group publication. This initiative will provide clubs with a fantastic platform to highlight their achievements, promote key events, and share important updates with their local communities. 

AFL Barwon Region General Manager Edward Wilson highlighted the significance of the collaboration, stating, “AFL Barwon is appreciative of the enthusiastic engagement with the local community that Times News Group has demonstrated for an extended period, and we’re proud to partner and amplify these channels, to better promote our affiliated Clubs, and the communities they call home”.

This partnership represents an aligned commitment to the community which is at the forefront of both The Times News Group and AFL Barwon’s key audiences.

Grill'd sign on in support of Junior Netball

AFL Barwon is proud to announce an exciting new partnership with Grill’d, who will become the official naming rights partner of key junior netball competitions across the region.

The partnership will commence during the Summer Season (2024/2025), strengthening the commitment of Grill’d in supporting the growth of grassroots netball in the AFL Barwon competitions.

Through this partnership, the summer and mid-week netball competitions will carry the Grill’d name, reinforcing their alignment with community sport and healthy lifestyles. They will hold the official naming rights for the Summer Junior Netball Competitions, Winter Mid-Week Junior Netball Competitions, the 15 & Under Division 1 Geelong FNL Netball Competition, and the 17 & Under Division 1 Bellarine FNL Netball Competition.

AFL Barwon Regional General Manager, Edward Wilson, expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership, stating, “Embracing local heroes and supporting the local community, has been an everlasting vision of Grill’d across Australia and the opportunity to partner with them locally, to support competitions, Clubs and participants, is one that enthuses us greatly”.
