AFL Barwon Welcomes Maddie Okely

AFL Barwon is thrilled to announce the appointment of Maddie Okely as the new Netball Umpire Coordinator.

Maddie is well-known within the AFL Barwon community and member clubs, having spent seven years as the Netball Participation Coordinator for the South West Region of Victoria during her time with Netball Victoria.

An accomplished official, Maddie holds a National B Grade Umpire Badge and is an accredited Elite Bench Official, showcasing her deep expertise in netball officiating.

Maddie’s extensive experience, gained through her professional and volunteer roles, extends beyond umpiring to many aspects of netball. This makes her exceptionally well-equipped to support and enhance umpire participation across the region.

Earlier this year, Maddie was recognised as the Senior Netball Administrator of the Year at the 2024 AFL Barwon Community Awards.

We are excited to welcome Maddie to the AFL Barwon team and are confident that her skills and experience will be a valuable asset to AFL Barwon, our clubs, and all netball umpires across the region.

Caitlyn Murphy

Caitlyn is passionate for youth engagement and participation in sport. She holds a degree in Youth Work/Sports Management from Victoria University. 
 
During her time studying, she undertook an internship at AFL Barwon where she gained hands on experience in the grassroots sporting sector and developed a deeper understanding of how local sport acts as a powerful tool for connection, inclusion, and community wellbeing. Caitlyn has also been involved in AFL Barwon as a netball competition coordinator working across multiple venues for multiple seasons.Caitlyn has a particular interest in empowering young girls and women to stay in sport and breaking down barriers to participation.  
 
Caitlyn has also spent time working in local council as a youth and community engagement officer where she assisted in the designing and implementing of youth-led initiatives working out of a youth hub.

Sophie Allison

Sophie joined the AFL Barwon team in 2021 after moving from Bendigo and completing her studies in Exercise and Sport Science at Deakin University (2019). During her studies, Sophie completed placement at Barwon Sports Academy, while also volunteering her time locally as a Junior Netball Coach. Having played netball most of her life, Sophie has a sound understanding of the Football-Netball landscape.

During her time in Geelong, Sophie has developed a thorough understanding of the region through her participation in both netball as a Player & Junior Coach, and more recently, her first season of Female Football.
