BFL Wash Up Round 9

Ocean Grove vs Barwon Heads

Ocean Grove was abysmal last weekend. They normally come into each game with a fighting attitude but Barwon Heads made minced meat of them.

The Seagulls have been one of the top sides all year, but there still seems to be a gap between Barwon Heads and the top two titans on the ladder.

They will meet Modewarre for the second time this season on Saturday. Ocean Grove will need to go back to basics as they look to Queenscliff as their next opposition.

Portarlington vs Modewarre

It seems the new average for defeating Portarlington, is well over 200 points. Modewarre came in and steamrolled their opponents by 218 points.

The Warriors have used Portarlington as a training drill, but it's on to more serious competition this weekend. Barwon Heads is a game ahead, but the Warriors will be keen to knock them back to an even playing field. The Demons have a David vs Goliath scenario when they meet Drysdale.

Queenscliff vs Anglesea

The unstoppable force met the immovable object last Saturday. The Coutas came out guns blazing, but Anglesea did not go away. They fought tooth and nail to get back into the contest, and the result was a draw.

Queenscliff would love to replay that game. Unfortunately, time goes on, and Ocean Grove is their next stop. The Roos have some spring in their step lately, but they will need to pull out every trick in the book to beat Torquay.

Torquay vs Geelong Amateur

Geelong Amateurs had a test in Torquay last Saturday, and like so many others, they failed to impress the Tigers. An 81 point beat down, was the result.

One could easily see this Tigers rampage going on until Round 14 when they meet Drysdale. For now, Anglesea is their next target. The Ammos will look to bounce back against Newcomb.

Newcomb vs Drysdale

The Hawks are still undefeated and still causing opposition coaches headaches. Although Drysdale started off slow in the first term, they unleashed a barrage of goals for the rest of the game.

Drysdale could not have a bigger advantage this upcoming weekend. They face Portarlington at Drysdale where the best meets the worst. Newcomb will match up against the Ammos, but Power will have the home ground advantage.

A persistent fight paid off for Anglesea last Saturday as the Roos' defeated Newcomb by 14 points. Ryan Williams was the tip of the spear for Anglesea, who finished his day with five majors.

Barwon Heads vs Portarlington

I don't believe I have ever seen a deficit this big in football. A 240 point smashing from Barwon Heads has kept the Demons in hell. Portarlington still remains at the bottom of the ladder with no wins or encouraging signs.

Barwon Heads will travel to Ocean Grove this weekend. Barwon will want to put Ocean Grove away early considering their persistent nature. Portarlington will return home and the Warriors will be waiting for them.

Drysdale keeps bridging the gap with their opposition term by term. Modewarre started well, but the Hawks have this ability to play harder for longer. The final result was Drysdale winners by 19 points.

After an extremely slow start by Ocean Grove, it was an uphill battle to catch Geelong. Ocean Grove managed to get within reach of taking the lead in the third term, but the Ammos were too good in the fourth. The Ammos walked away 19 point victors.

Ocean Grove will be set a task this week against Barwon Heads, but at least the match will be on home soil. The Ammos move on to take a real test in Torquay who have a habit of steamrolling their opposition.

Torquay vs Queenscliff

The Tigers went fishing last Saturday, and for four quarters, they were eating Coutas. Queenscliff was overwhelmed from the start of the first siren. Torquay easily took home the four points after crushing the Coutas by 82 points.

Torquay has been nothing short of perfect since their defeat by Drysdale. Geelong Ammos have put themselves up as a contender for the flag this year, the Tigers will want to silence their claims this weekend. As for the Coutas, they may find a challenge with Anglesea this weekend.
