  • AFL Barwon – Geelong & Surrounding Areas

A DAY IN THE LIFE OF

An AFL Victoria Game Development Officer is primarily responsible for conducting general Australian Football game development programs within the school and community environment. The role will include but not limited to:

  • Supporting the delivery of school’s clinics,
  • NAB AFL Auskick program,
  • Diversity Programs,
  • AFL club-based activations,
  • Promotional activations,
  • Coaching Initiatives and,
  • Inflatable activations.

OUR IDEAL TEAM MEMBER

  • Demonstrated personal initiative and ability to work effectively unsupervised and in a team environment.
  • Well-developed verbal, interpersonal and presentation skills.
  • Confidence and ability to deliver engaging and positive outcomes with a range of AFL programs.
  • Current Victorian Driver License with access to a motor vehicle.
  • Satisfactory Employee “Working with Children” check.
  • First Aid certificate or to be obtained.

Desirable

• Tertiary qualifications in Teaching, Sports Coaching, Recreation, Education, Marketing or equivalent depth of experience.

• Established ability to bring together and coordinate a diverse range of project partners.

AFL Barwon Media Coordinator

The AFL Barwon Commission provides governance and strategy development for Football and Netball across the Geelong and Colac regions. We are seeking a creative and motivated person to manage all facets of media and communications in the AFL Barwon Region.

The Media Coordinator is primarily responsible for managing all of AFL Barwon’s social media platforms, strategic media engagement and liaison with local media outlets and internal and external AFL Barwon communications. The role is responsible for of AFL Barwon’s day-to-day media activities, including creative proactive and engaging content. During periods of high activity, the Media Coordinator will lend a hand to assist their colleagues with different projects and campaigns from a digital sense.

The successful applicant will be responsible for managing relationships with other media parties, club stakeholders and internal staff.

Reporting to the Commercial Partnerships Manager, the successful applicant will require:

  • Experience in managing social media platforms and content creation
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience in creative design
  • Demonstrated expertise in writing for a range of publications, reports and creative pieces for both print and online audiences.
  • Experience managing and producing print publications (eg: newsletters, brochures), including writing, editing and researching content, and basic design.
  • Demonstrated capacity to plan and schedule differing work demands for oneself and the team in order to meet deadlines for multiple tasks in a variety of work areas.

AFL Barwon appoints Region Manager

AFL Barwon is pleased to announce that Bruce Harwood has been appointed as the new Region Manager.

Harwood needs little introduction, currently serving as a City of Greater Geelong Councillor and previous Mayor of the City, he has a long association with football and netball as a player, supporter and administrator and has been a long-time advocate for community sport in this region.

“I am really pleased with this appointment.  We have completed a very thorough process and had a number of excellent applicants,” AFL Barwon Chair Craig Keating said.

“Bruce brings a wealth of experience in business and community engagement to AFL Barwon and his energy and passion for the region will enhance the development of our community sports of football and netball as we move out of the Covid impacted years of 2020 and 2021.”

“I would also like to acknowledge and thank the great work of Georgia Hillman and Sean Atkinson who both led the AFL Barwon team over the past season in the roles as Acting RGM with distinction. Both Georgia and Sean deserve great credit for navigating the challenges of 2021 and can be proud of their work. The whole AFL Barwon team has performed brilliantly under difficult circumstances.”

Harwood will commence in the role on Tuesday 26 October.
