This is a friendly reminder that the deadline to submit feedback on the proposed changes is  COB today, Thursday, October 17th.

AFLB Women & Girls Football Proposed Changes for 2025 Feedback Form

Following Thursday 17th October, the AFLB Football & Netball Operations Committee (sub-Committee of the AFLB Commission), will meet to ratify the proposed changes and in this process, consider the final submissions of feedback, in signing off changes for 2025.

The information below summarises the proposed changes for the 2025 Women & Girls Football season, with the opportunity to submit additional feedback via the form link above:

2025 AGE GROUPS

Seniors, U18, U16, U14, U12, U10, U9

SENIORS COMPETITION

  • Two divisions, reducing from the three divisional structure in 2023 & 2024;
  • Removal of Grading Rounds for 2025, with divisions for 2025 to be finalised based on the H&A finishing positions in the 2024 season (i.e. top-half of finishing positions in Division 1 and the bottom-half in Division 2);
  • Upward and downward movement yearly to allocate divisions (i.e. 2025 into 2026, 2026 into 2027 etc.);
  • The two-lowest ranked teams at the conclusion of the H&A season in Division 1, move downward to Division 2 for the following season (i.e. finishing 2025 positions to then set 2026 divisions, and so on);
  • The two-highest ranked teams at the conclusion of the H&A season in Division 2, move upward to Division 1 for the following season (i.e. finishing 2025 positions to then set 2026 divisions, and so on); and
  • The removal of Grading Rounds for 2025 enables AFLB to develop the 2025 Senior Women & Girls Football fixture, in-line with the release of the Bellarine FNL & Geelong FNL 2025 fixtures.
  • A Club cannot enter a team into a Senior Women’s competition (for the first time), without having at least one of the following teams as well - U16, U14, U12, U10 or U9. This is to further promote sustainable Women & Girls Football programs by building from the “base up”, whilst accommodating for existing Women & Girls Football programs.
  • As announced in 2023, a transitional period in primary-day-of-play with the objective of Saturdays in 2025, is on track for implementation. Individual Club by Club engagement will begin next week, to understand fixturing preferences and requirements, noting Clubs have varying abilities and implementation requirements with this; and
  • Same season length as 2024, but with the removal of four grading rounds, four additional H&A games will take their place.
  • Implementation of Total Team Points (TTPs) for all Senior divisions in 2025. Your feedback on the allocation of TTPs per team/division is greatly welcomed.

U18s COMPETITION

  • A Friday-night competition in 2025

U16s, U14s, U12s & U10s COMPETITIONS

  • Days of play remain as per 2024
  • Grading rounds remain as per 2024

U9s COMPETITION

  • A review is currently in progress with AFL Victoria, as to the format and implementation of this competition, called the “Unders” competition in 2024.
  • This review is in progress, with participation costs at the forefront of the decision making (i.e. keeping these down) to support this as a vital and sustainable entry into Community Football for girls, following the success of the 2023 and 2024 iterations.

2024 Club Facilities Audit
Author - Tim Secombe

All clubs would have recently received an email from me regarding the 2024 Club facilities audit.

By way of explanation, this audit supports analysis and advocacy for new developments and upgrades, whilst providing AFL Victoria/Barwon with an up-to-date inventory of regional facilities. The audit contains important football and netball facilities data which can be used to form part of future funding opportunities from an AFL Victoria perspective.

Thanks to those clubs that have returned their respective audits. Just a gentle reminder to clubs that we are requiring the completion of your facilities audit by Monday the 21/10/24 noting I am also requiring responses if there are  no changes from the 2023 facilities audit.

Thanks all.

Regards
