Michael Limb

Head of Operations

Mick was a primary school teacher for 20 years, mainly in Phys Ed and in his latter teaching years as a School Principal. During those years he also drove interstate and Central Australia coach tours.

He then started a business providing recent issue magazines for various companies across Australia for use in their waiting rooms.

Mick commenced at Football Geelong in 2003 as Junior Football Manager, and the following year he also became Senior Football Operations Manager.

He played two years at St Kilda FC in U19s and Reserve Grade, then two years with Sandringham and the next two years at Frankston in the VFA. Having moved around through teaching, he then played two years at Apollo Bay, two years at Mornington, three years at Frankston YCW and two years as Captain Coach at Branxholme Wallacedale. He also played District Cricket with Fitzroy and Prahran. At Queenscliff FNC, he coached Under 18s for seven years and Reserves for one year as well as serving three years as club President.

Georgia Hillman

Commercial Partnerships Manager

Georgia started her career with the Melbourne Football Club as Merchandise Manager, before moving into the Commercial Partnerships Team. Georgia was responsible for managing a number of partners including New Balance, The Sporting Globe and Chisholm Institute. Georgia participated in both the AFLW and Diversity and Inclusion Working Groups during her time at Melbourne.  After five years she moved into the Commercial Team at AFL Victoria where she was part of the AFL Victoria Leadership Group and worked with a number of our current partners including TAC, Victorian Responsible Gambling, CUB and Victor Sports while also managing partners such as WorkSafe, Toyota, Swisse, McDonald’s and Hard Yakka/ Totally Workwear . Being at Melbourne FC for the inception on AFLW brought to life her passion for Female Football which lead her to play for the Barwon Heads Seagals.

Sarah Allen

Netball & Events Manager

Sarah joined the AFL Barwon team in 2012 as a university student on placement through Victorian University. Sarah has held previous roles as Netball Coordinator, Football Development Manager in addition to Netball Manager.

Sarah has coached the Geelong Flyers from 2010 to 2013 and was assistant coach for the GFNL 17 and under representative team in 2014.

Sarah played junior representative for the BFNL from Under 13’s through 17’s, has played for the Geelong Flyers and also the Barwon Region.

Sophie Murley

Netball Coordinator

Sophie joined the AFL Barwon team in 2021 after moving from Bendigo and completing her studies in Exercise and Sport Science at Deakin University (2019). During her studies, Sophie completed placement at Barwon Sports Academy, while also volunteering her time locally as a junior netball coach. Having played netball most of her life, Sophie has a sound understanding of the football-netball landscape.

During her time in Geelong, Sophie has developed a thorough understanding of the region through her participation in both netball as a player & junior coach, and more recently, her first season of women’s football.

Courtney Lino

Netball Coordinator

Courtney started at AFL Barwon shortly after completing her Bachelor of Business Sport Management and Marketing degree at La Trobe university. Courtney was previously employed at the Melbourne Rebels Rugby Association as a membership consultant and corporate events executive, where she was responsible for match day administrative tasks and Weary Dunlop members.

Courtney has always been heavily involved with the Geelong/Barwon region, from the time she started playing in the GFNL league as a u/15. She has also played in representative, regional and state teams. During this time, Courtney has also been involved in other aspects of the GFNL community Netball including coaching and umpiring senior games.

Victoria O'Neill

Jock Hillgrove

Director of Umpiring

Jason “Jock” Hillgrove has been involved in umpiring for 30 years.

A life member of Geelong Umpires and having umpired nearly 250 games has made a greater impact in the coaching and development of umpires in recent times.

Jock has served as a Geelong Umpires Board of Director, Umpire Coach and umpire. Having worked for five years with AFL NSW/ACT – Canberra as Umpire Development Manager serving the areas of the ACT, South and Far South Coast of NSW gaining experience at all levels of the game.

Now returning home and having been in the role of AFL Barwon Regional Director of Umpiring since February 2015, completing his AFL Umpire High Performance and Coaching Certificate (2016) brings experience, passion and enthusiasm to the  AFL Barwon Region.

David Harris

Football & Umpiring Operations Coordinator

Dave joined AFL Barwon at the start of the 2020 season as Umpiring Development Coordinator in a traineeship role but due to Covid-19 pandemic, had to postpone that role whilst the season was put on hold. Fortunately in 2021 Dave was able to re-join AFL Barwon and assist in both the Umpiring and Football departments. Dave has had experience running his own children’s fitness business (Gecko Sports) along with being the General Manager for the Geelong Umpires for four years. Dave’s football background began as a child playing for the Panmure Bulldogs before taking up Umpiring where he is currently officiating at the AFL level and has umpired over 150 matches.

Meg Hutchins

Female Football Coordinator

A strong sporting background, Meg has prior administrative experience as Director of Rowing at MLC, Kew, AFLW Football Operations Manager at Collingwood Football Club, Next Generation Academy Liaison at Collingwood Football Club, Female Football Projects at AFL Players Association and Female Football Talent Identification & Recruitment Officer at Hawthorn Football Club.

On the field, her Football experience includes being an inaugural AFLW Player for Collingwood Football Club, over 250 Senior Football Games – VFLW / AFLW, League Best and Fairest and VFLW Premiership Player 2018 for Hawthorn Football Club.

Her coaching experience includes being an Assistant Coach at NAB League Level for Eastern Ranges Girls and an Assistant Coach with Caulfield Grammar School First XVIII.

In addition to working for AFL Barwon and championing female footy, Meg is Co-Owner of Body Fit Training in Ocean Grove.

Deb Thewlis

Accounts Administrator

Deb joined Football Geelong/AFL Barwon in 2008.

Deb has been heavily involved with sport for over 35 years.  Playing tennis for most of her life she became more involved with junior support following her two boys around both cricket and football seasons

Her involvement at club level includes:

Secretary at Gheringhap Tennis Club;

Secretary of Tennis Geelong;

Junior Coordinator at Bannockburn Football Club;

Senior club secretary for six years;

Junior Coordinator at Bannockburn Cricket Club;

Current Club Secretary (which she has been for the past eight years).

Lachlan McClounan

Business Traineeship

Lachlan was appointed under a business traineeship at AFL Barwon in July 2021. Since completing VCE in 2017, Lachlan has worked in hospitality and maintenance. In 2020, he briefly worked as an Umpire Development Officer with AFL Barwon, helping deliver an AFL umpiring course to school students in the Geelong Region. In July 2021, Lachlan completed a Certificate IV in Accounting and Bookkeeping.  He has previously played football for the Bannockburn Football Club.
